Chronicles of an Adventuring Bearwere

A wild New Year post appears!

"Happy New Year!" he says belatedly.

I pray 2024 was as good as you hoped and that 2025 will be better for everyone. But we're not here to talk about that. We're here to talk about gaming! It's been two months since my last post. What have I been up to? Not much, sadly and unfortunately. But I plan to change that in 2025.

Shadows in Moonlight returns!

My D&D 5e campaign has been on hiatus for months, but we're resuming here in a couple of weeks. I've a general plan for content and events based off the players' current goals (mostly, "get back home"). As part of my prep, I'm going to be writing up synopsizes(?) of the campaign thus far, both to refresh my own memory as well as to share with the players. I'll get those posted on here as well. Probably. Hopefully. And once the campaign resumes, I plan to write session reports.

Hexcrawl25

In addition, I'm trying to spend a little bit of time each day on hobby related activity. Towards that end, I'm participating in Hexcrawl25. I'm approaching it a little differently than the suggested progression plan, but towards the same end. I'm planning to write up a post on that as well.

D&D Club

Someone in my local area is starting a Dungeons & Dragons Club at a local library. It's significantly closer than either my FLGS or the college tabletop club where I nominally hold membership. I'm planning on participating as my schedule allows. As far as I know, the current plan is D&D 5e, but I'm going to try and get something going under another system. More updates once that starts meeting.

RPG System Exploration

If you know me from an online community, you're probably aware of my dissatisfaction with D&D 5e. It was a major contributing factor to the Shadows in Moonlight hiatus. Because of that, I'm currently trying to settle on a system I can use long-term for my fantasy adventuring gaming. Most of the primary contenders are older editions of D&D or retroclones thereof, but I have a few other possibilities on the shelf. And there's also other system that I enjoy and want to run more just as their own thing. So I'm planning on running some shorter campaigns and test games with a variety of systems over the course of the year.

Other gaming

Beyond TTRPGs, I've got several board games I've not gotten to the table yet as well as a few new ones from Christmas. And there's the ever present video game backlog, so I might post some thoughts on those as I play them.

And that is my current plan for 2025. We'll see how well it holds up to reality. Until next post, happy gaming, stay safe, and God bless.
